WEEK 13 (Apparently I’ve had the week numbers wrong the entire season…)

  1. Alabama (10-0) The worst outing of the season for the Tide, but an easy win regardless. Strangely, a game with Chattanooga is all that separates Bama from their epic Iron Bowl showdown with one-loss Auburn. If Alabama shows up flat in two weeks at Auburn, they’ll lose everything.
  2. Florida State (10-0) Nobody in the country is playing on the same level as Florida State…not even Alabama. Yea I said it! I just figure that there’s some sort of unwritten rule against dropping the back-to-back national champs from their top spot unless they lose.
  3. Ohio State (9-0) This ain’t Woody’s Buckeyes. The 60 points they dropped on Illinois proved that. Still, the Bucks need some help to get to that other game in Pasadena.
  4. Baylor Bears (9-0) Baylor’s schedule is picking up. If the Bears get past Oklahoma State next week, they’ll get past Ohio State in these rankings…and maybe the BCS rankings as well.
  5. Clemson Tigers (9-1) Clemson got by Georgia Tech with ease, and will finish the season against the Citadel (for reasons I will never understand) before playing South Carolina. A win against the Gamecocks would likely solidify their place in a BCS bowl.
  6. Oregon Ducks (9-1) The Ducks had very little issue with Utah, but they got good news later in the night when Stanford handed them the keys to the Pac-12 North.
  7. Auburn Tigers (10-1) How the hell did that happen? The real lesson to be learned is this. God hates Cleveland AND Aaron Murray. What has that kid done to deserve this? In other news, the Tigers are two weeks away from the biggest Iron Bowl ever.
  8. Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-1) T. Boone’s boys still control their own destiny in the Big 12. Baylor and then Bedlam await. How high can the Cowboys soar if they win both games?
  9. Missouri Tigers (9-1) Bye week for Mizzou. The pressure has been turned up on the Tigers. With South Carolina in the clubhouse one game back and holding a tie-breaking head to head win, a loss to either Ole Miss or Johnny Football would end their BCS dreams.
  10. Texas A&M Aggies (8-2) Bye week for the Aggies as they prepare for LSU and Mizzou to end the season.
  11. South Carolina Gamecocks (8-2) The Gamecocks are in the clubhouse after an ugly win against Florida. Now they keep their fingers crossed for a Missouri loss.
  12. Stanford Cardinal (8-2) The Cardinals fell flat against USC, a team that has found new life under Ed Orgeron. Stanford looks elite on the big stages, but they’ve struggled with upstarts, and USC is a pretty loaded team as far as upstarts go.
  13. Michigan State Spartans (9-1) Sparty looks to be a safe bet to end up in Indy after beating Nebraska. The question is can they give Ohio State a game once they get there. Also be mindful of the tricky road trip to Northwestern next week. Despite their six game losing streak, the Wildcats are always a tough out.
  14. Wisconsin Badgers (8-2) The Badgers can’t get much love outside of Big Ten country, but they are playing some of the best football in the nation at the moment.
  15. UCLA Bruins (8-2) If UCLA goes into next year committed to playing Myles Jack both ways, the freshman linebacker/running back could come back next year as a Heisman frontrunner. This kid’s size and speed on offense and defense have made UCLA must-see TV.
  16. Oklahoma Sooners (8-2) Easy bounce back win against Iowa State. The Sooners have struck out in big games this year, but they have one more shot in the Bedlam Game.
  17. LSU Tigers (7-3) Tigers were off, but next week they have a date with Johnny Football.
  18. Fresno State Bulldogs (9-0) Bye week for Fresno and…
  19. Northern Illinois Huskies (9-0) Bye week for Northern Illinois
  20. UCF Golden Knights (8-1) Just when we start to question how UCF could give away their opportunity at the Big East’s BCS berth…they almost showed us against Temple.
  21. Louisville Cardinals (9-1) The Cards continue their unimpressive run at an impressive record.
  22. Arizona State Sun Devils (8-2) The collision course with UCLA continues. I’m sure that ASU would have loved to have played the Bruins before the emergence of LB/RB Myles Jack.
  23. USC Trojans (8-3) The Trojans continue to run through walls for their interim coach Ed Orgeron
  24. Duke Blue Devils (8-2) We live in a world where Duke controls their own destiny in the ACC.
  25. Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-2) No longer a contender for the Big Ten title, the Gophers still can win 10 games and play football on New Year’s Day.
